Internal Controls (Section E) and Technology & Analytics (Section F) trip up a lot of CMA candidates. After hours of ratio analysis, switching to COSO frameworks and SDLCs can feel like learning a new language. Here's why these topics are hard - and what actually helps.

The challenge isn't math - it's interpretation. Questions ask for the best answer. That requires understanding, not just recall.

The COSO framework's five components aren't hard to memorize. What's hard is seeing how they interact in a real business scenario. Terms like "segregation of duties" or "inherent risk" stay fuzzy until you've seen them applied.

Think of a company as a castle. Internal controls are the walls, the guards, and the locked doors. Each plays a different role. Once you see it that way, the framework starts to make sense.

The System Development Lifecycle is often a curveball for accounting-focused candidates. Treat it as a story, not a list:

Knowing a definition is one thing. Recognizing it inside an exam question is another. That gap is where most candidates struggle.
